I’m in love with the sharp silhouette of my recently finished banana jacket!
I got this amazing banana fabric a couple of months ago – it’s actually an upholstry fabric. The weaving is really cool, it’s made in jacquard weave, which means it’s equal on both sides, and very thick. It has not been an easy fabric to sew, far from it. This is also my very first pattern alignment test, and I used up tons of fabric whilst trying to match the bananas. Also a first, making buttonhole loops! Beneath the front I’ve hidden two of them.
I wanted to line the jacket with flannel, a brushed cotton fabric which is very warm and snuggly. My mentor told me to put a smoother fabric (I chose rayon) from the armpit and outwards, so the jacket won’t snug when I put it on.
I got some really lovely vintage buttons off ebay, they look like Werthers Original!
Soon I’ll take some pics of the knitted two piece I assembled yesterday.
