This cocoon coat is a mix of wonderful fabrics and trimmings I picked up quite randomly. The main (crazy) fabric is authentic Ikat from Java with gold dust, which I picked up at Etsy. The icy blue faux fur collar I got in Paris last year, in a wonderful shop in the garment district, which specialized in Faux fur. Furry walls!
A first for me sewing this coat was doing welted pockets. Such a first that I had to redo them twice. The welt pocket to me is one of those mysterious things I could not wrap my head around until I dived deeper into sewing techniques. It looks like it’s just popped up there, but behind the surface it’s a whirl of twists, turns and a lot of seams.
The result is a fun coat, my boyfriends little siblings wear it and pretend they are king and queen. I think it has a very striking apperance with the (violently) patterned fabric – almost like a costume. Right up my alley!
