Courreges SS16 collection is a true feast for 60’s space age lovers. I love how Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, LVMH prize winners and cult-brand Coperni founders have transformed the brand. Vogue stated that the true art behind their debut collection is the back to basics approach. Putting an emphasis on the space age and mod elements, interpreting them through a modern perspective.
An example is the glossy leather skirt, with it’s subtle rounded shape. A pinch of space age, brought down by a simple rib knit pairing and white ankle boots. Speaking of the ankle boots, the original leather boot by Courreges is one of my favourite pieces, and I’m wondering why they haven’t been included in the collection. It is possible that too much of the 60’s is hard to digest, and that Meyer and Valliant are trying to appeal to a more “basic” girl. Luckily they are still surfing on the sixties mod wave and 70’s styles from 2015.
I really like that they’ve kept the glossy leather from older collections, and I also favour the tech-ish materials introduced. It seems like the perfect way to take Courreges into the next century. I think Andrè Courreges would be proud.
