There are numerous theories to why there is a penny in the loafer. The brochure says that “From being a practical way to carry money or serving as a quirky fashion detail, a little gem in your shoes to signalling resistance to the occupation during World War II, the penny has becomed the history of norwegians”.
“A penny in the loafer was not something just anyone could wear. It was strictly for couples”, A woman remembers the Aurland Shoe tradition in Trondheim in the 70’s.
Aurlandskoen is truly a norwegian national treasure, hand made at the factory in Aurland, Norway. People say it’s the original moccasin – where fashion brands of all kinds drew their inspiration.
