Moonboots were invented by Giancarlo Zamatta, a young businessman from Italy in 1969. He was inspired by the boots worn by Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin on the Apollo 11.
My brand new moonboots arrived in the mail from Italy a few days ago. My oh my how wonderfully strange, awesome and ugly they are. I’ve never had a pair of moonboots before, so I was very impressed by how warm they felt on my feet! Test driving these babies around town certainly racked up some stares, and comments varied from “whether I’d gotten lost from the skii track” to “Wow, those are weird”. I think they are perfectly suited for sideways snow, wind and below zero temperatures in my native Bergen, Norway.
